Christian Fish Symbol... Dagon

=

 Image taken from
(Hislop, Alexander. The Two Babylons. Chapter VI, Section I, [The Soverign Pontiff]).

The fish’s first known use as a Christian symbol was sometime within the first three centuries A.D.

A Philistine deity represented by the fish emblem is Dagon. The name means "corn," Dagon is an ancient Mesopotamian vegetation god, father of Baal. According to myths he was the god of crop fertility and the inventor of the plough. He passed this knowledge to mankind to let them better till the soil and produce food. Dagon's temples were in the cities of the Philistines for 2000 years. Dagon's temple at Ashdod still existed right up until the time of the Hasmoneans [who ruled parts of Palestine in Jesus' days]. Dagon was portrayed half man and half fish.

As far as the Bible goes, The Most High God has had conflict with this false idol at least since the times of Samson. In Judges 16 is the story of Samson, after the Philistines bound him, they had a party they praised Dagon because of the arrest of Samson.

In 1Samuel 5 during the days of Samuel the priest, the Philistines waged war against Israel. During the battle the ark of the covenant of God was taken by the Philistines and brought to a Philistine city called Ashdod. There the ark was set up in the house of Dagon, next to the idol of Dagon. What happened next is a testament of God’s fury towards this fish emblem.

“When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day. But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god” (1 Samuel 5:1-12).

When they moved the ark to a different city, the Bible says that the men of that city received emrods in their ‘secret parts’!

Note: an emrod is similar to a tumor. Some scholars say that it was a case of bubonic plague, while others argue it was closer to hemroids.

Either way, it is the penalty for mixing the holy things of the True and Living God with the house of dumb idols.
I wonder if the men of the city got up in the morning, saw their idol face down and instead of 'cursing' said, "Dag-gonit!"  In the case of a Christian, I personally think that you'd be better off cursing, rather than speaking the name of a false idol/pagan god and offending the True & living God, rather than saying a word that might offend a couple of people.

This folly was instituted under the catholic church. It should be therefore no suprise that the dress of arch-bishops, cardinals, and even the pope resemble the garments worn by the priets of Dagon (and even Dagon himself) in the Babylonian Mystery Religons.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT (you do the dishes) : The fish, like most pagan symbols, is a symbol of a woman's fertility because of what the fish did to Osiris (covered in part 1).  This is the reason that in the secular world a woman whom does not correctly and efficently use feminine products is said to have a vagina that smells like... You guessed it; Fish!

The youtube link better illustrates this point. (@   2:58)

Christian symbol's... A fish?

?

“Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him” (Matthew 4:17-20).

This scripture is supposed to be the basis for the fish symbol that people put on their automobiles, refrigerators, T-shirts, and other church paraphernalia. It is never a good idea to base doctrine, sayings, customs or traditions on 1 scripture. For the Bible teaches that, “by the mouth of 2 or more witness is a fact established (Deuteronomy 19:15 / Matthew 18:16 / 2 Corinthians 13:1). Note: even in establishing the custom of having 2 or more witnesses we have 3 witnesses. Moses (Prophet/Patriarch), Jesus (Messiah), and Paul (Apostle). Therefore by this logic you could not even find a matching scripture in another gospel, for they would still be the words of only one witness.

This process is not because anyone who wrote anything in the Bible is inaccurate, but because with over 10,000 Christian denominations in the world there is a huge margin for misunderstanding the words of any one of them. Scriptures can be twisted to justify just about anything. Especially in the New Testament the apostle Paul was so wise, and had so much understanding that if someone were to attempt to read his Epistles (letters) without a deep understanding of the scripture (Genesis – Malachi) they would most likely be confused, and we all know that God is not the author of confusion. Even the Apostle Peter testified to this:

“…Even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness” (2Peter 3:15-18).

Having said that let us reason together on the origin of this ‘fish emblem.’

Before the Roman Catholic Church adopted the fish symbol it was used by pagans and recognized among other things as "The Great Mother" and "The Womb." It symbolizes fertility, birth, and the natural force of women was acknowledged also by the Celts, as well as other pagans throughout Northern Europe.

Scriptures can be twisted to justify just about anything. The fact remains that the 2nd commandment informs us not to make symbols that represent God, for that by definition is an Idol.

The wearing, hanging or displaying of symbol has the tendency to bring veneration to them, and thereby returning to paganism. This is why we are instructed not to create symbols or pictures and say they represent the True and Living God. The 2nd commandment prohibits such things for this very reason. Our God is a jealous God, and he won't share his glory with an idol fashioned by the hands of a man.

As early as the 11th CenturyA.D. An acronym surfaced in the so-called Christian community. By taking the first letter in every word in the phrase ‘Jesus Christ, Son of god, Savior(in Greek; the language the New Testament was written in) it makes another word (in Greek). The phrase in Greek is Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter; these letters are: Iota Chi Theta Upsilon Sigma and the word it creates is Ichthus. This is the same word used throughout the New Testament for fish.

First of all the phrase that is used to make this word isn’t even a real phrase. ‘Jesus Christ, Son of god, Savior’ are just four titles of the Messiah. It seems that those words were arranged in this manner so that they would make the word for fish. These customs are not those of which we should follow… In English JCSGS is no word at all!

Ichthys was the offspring of the ancient Sea goddess Atargatis and was known as Aphrodite, or Delphine. In other languages the word meant ‘womb’ and ‘dolphin.’ Sometimes the idol appeared in the form of a mermaid.

The most well known tale of the fish of paganism is the fish of the Nile tale. This particular fish swallowed Osiris’ penis. The fish then became a symbol of the sexuality of Isis for she had sex with Osiris after his death which resulted in the birth of Horus. The fish became therefore a symbol of birth and fertility.

The fact that Jesus fed a multitude with 3 fishes and 5 loaves of bread is totally irrelevent to the topic at hand and therefore other than this nice pic to the left i will not expound on it.

THE CONCLUSION OF THE MATER:  The wearing, hanging or displaying of symbol has the tendency to bring veneration to them, and thereby returning to paganism. This is why we are instructed not to create symbols or pictures and say they represent the True and Living God. The 2nd commandment prohibits such things for this very reason. Our God is a jealous God, and he won't share his glory with an idol fashioned by the hands of a man.

?THE CURSE OF HAM??

The curse of Ham has been handed down thru the years as an excuse for slavery, apartheid, Jim crow, innumerable injustices and atrocities. This convenient scapegoat shows that we should question their too easy assumptions. The curse of Ham stems from the Biblical story of Noah in Genesis 9. This is the same chapter The Lord establishes a covenant with men and beasts; that he will never again drown the whole earth.

And the token of the covenant is the rainbow.

“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth... And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying... I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth... I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth... And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud... And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth” (Gen. 1-16).

“And the sons of Noah that went forth of the ark were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant… And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died” (Genesis 9:18-29).

Through these few verses people of all races nationalities and sects have assumed that the subjugation of people of a dark complexion was fulfilling the prophecy of Noah. The so-called Jews, The Catholic Church, Mormons, Big Corporations, and of course Europeans have all used this chapter to get rich during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is said, that in the Talmud it is written that Ham was the progenitor of the Negro race. Therefore, Noah cursed Ham for looking upon his nakedness. As a result the following transformations occurred in creating the Negro; Ham looked upon Noah in the darkness, so his skin was made dark. Because of the darkness, the Negro’s eyes were made large and bulging. Ham’s son Canaan was made to be the servant of servants, therefore ALL "Hamites" [Negroes] were born as slaves. Noah was supposedly sodomized by Ham, so as a curse, the male part (penis) was made large as a curse. [lmb*o… Some Curse]

This folly should be easily cleared up just by actually reading the scripture. In verse 25-27 Noah curses Canaan, the Son of Ham!  Also in the following verses all of the curses are laid upon Ham’s son Canaan, none of the curses are given to Ham himself. Having said that, let us look at the lineage of Ham and Canaan.

"And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan… And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth… And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim" (Genesis 10:6-14).

LET IT BE KNOWN: Ham had 4 sons. Cush (settled in Nubia what is now called the Sudan), Mizram (settled in Egypt also called Kement), Phut (associated with ancient Libya), and Canaan (settled in modern Palestine also known as ‘The Promised Land’).

And now the lineage of Canaan: And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth, And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha. These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations” (Genesis 10:15-20).

Most of these names should sound familiar to us. For it was of these sons that, God told Abraham his seed would inherit. “…Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites” (Genesis 15:18-21)

Also to the children of Israel, “of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee: That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 20:16-18).

It was the land of Canaan that was the land of ‘milk and honey.’ Therefore the curse of Canaan was fulfilled with Joshua and the children of Israel when they entered the Promised Land. During the years of the Judges of Israel up to David and Solomon the children of Canaan were servants in Israel.

“but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute” (Joshua 16:1-10).

“Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out” (Joshua 17:11-13).

Even in the Gospels Jesus told the Canaanite woman that it isn’t good to take the children’s bread and give it to dogs, when the Canaanite woman asked for his help (Matthew 15:20-28).

Therefore the curse of Ham is no curse at all. The curse of Canaan is that his land was given to the children of Shem (Arab’s also called Ishmaelites currently dwell in the land of Canaan). Babylon invaded the promised land around 532B.C and from that time to the current day the Gentiles (sons of Japheth), have been enlarged to dwell in the tents of Shem (the land inherited from Canaan), and even then Canaanites lived in the land and served the children of Japheth also.

PAGANISM ALL AROUND US...The Cross!?

The cross has been a religious symbol for thousands of years, even before Jesus came in the flesh. Have you ever wondered if Jesus was only crucified once, why are there so many different variations of the cross? The 'universal' symbol of Christianity is very different depending on which culture the particular denomination originated. For example:

The Egyptian cross or 'ankh'

It is linked with the Egyptian god Osiris and the goddess Isis (the eternal mother and High Priestess who carries the Ankh in Her hand). Pharaohs are oftentimes shown with an Ankh to distinguish them as royalty, since Pharaoh was supposed to be a god (like Caesar). The loop of the Ankh represents the womb, (and is therefore considered to be the feminine), and the "T" shape represents the Penis (and is therefore considered to be the masculine).
Note: in modern Biology this is the symbol of a female, because of the fertility that it represents in Ancient Egypt.

The Celtic cross:

The symbol for a cultural blend of medieval Catholicism and ancient Celtic traditions. The Celtic cross also represents the neo-pagan followers of the French anti-Christian philosopher Alain de Benoist.

Even clear on the other side of the globe, when the Roman Catholic missionaries arrived in Mexico large stone crosses were already erected, probably to the "god of rain."
These are but a few. Virtually all pagan societies have some pre-Christian variation of the cross.

The cross, or crucifix is thought to have originated with the Roman Emperor Constantine The Great.
The legend goes that in the year 312A.D. BEFORE a great battle Constantine saw a vision in the sky of a flaming cross superimposed on the sun, and he heard in this sign you will conquer. He therefore had the symbol painted on the shields of all his solders. After winning the battle Constantine is said 2 have converted to Christianity and made it an accepted religion (not the official religion) in the Roman Empire.

The Babylonian cross was the recognized symbol of Tammuz in both Chaldea (Babylon) and Egypt.

(Tammuz a.k.a Bacchus, The Babylonian false messiah)

Emperor Constantine receives the major share of historical credit in uniting the sun worshiper's of the empire with the Christian’s of the Empire.

After the reformation Protestant's didn't admire the cross as the symbol of Jesus. Especially the 16th & 17th century Puritans. However in 19th, 20th, 21st century the cross has been ever increasingly accepted.

LET IT BE KNOWN: In ancient Babylon crosses were used as symbols of the sun-god. The emperor Constantine (the 1st roman emperor to convert 2 Christianity and end Christian persecution) was a sun worshiper. Now the question begs to be asked did this pagan Roman emperor really get converted because he saw a vision from the true & living God? If he saw any vision at all it was of the sun-god for he saw the sun-god's symbol in the sky.

Vow Unto The Lord

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few” (Ecclesiastes 5:2)

What is an oath?
a. A solemn, formal declaration or promise to fulfill a pledge, often calling on God, a god, or a sacred object as witness. b. The words or formula of such a declaration or promise.

An oath is supposed to be a statement somehow more special than our everyday speech. Because of the sudden flow of emotion an oath is stated instead of a statement of proclamation. People can swear to another person but may vow only to God.

First let us deal with what The Messiah said:

“Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil” (Matthew 5:33-37).

First of all the need to swear an oath comes from a need for your words to be believed. If you always did everything you said you would, there would be no need for anything more than yea, I will do it; or nay, I will not do it. This is why more than yes or no comes from evil. If you have to swear an oath for your words to be true, then an intelligent person would conclude that any and everything you say when not swearing an oath has a lie contained in it.

“When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay” (Ecclesiastes 5:4-5).

Because vows are most usually made in haste and out of emotional adrenaline rather than logical thoughts; and since vows cannot be broken it can create a syrup sticky situation. Jephthah is a good Example of why the people of God should steer away from vows.

Jephthah, an Israelite from Gilead, also made a vow that if he could win in a battle with the people of Ammon, whatever came to greet him when he got home he would sacrifice as a burnt offering!?! (Judges 11:28-31). Of course he won the battle and guess who came to greet him: “And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tumbrels’ and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter (Judges 11:32-40).

AN EXCEPTION TO THE RULE:

“If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth; And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand. But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her. And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul; And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive her. But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her. And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath; And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand... Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity. These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father's house” (Numbers 30:2-16).

This vow exception is why Adam could have not eaten the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil; and he would have saved the creation, although Eve had already eaten as i mentioned in the post: http://studythebiblenotthesermon.blogspot.com/2009/11/fall-of-humanity.html

Even this exception has boundaries, the father must hear the vow, and disallow it in the day that he heard it, in order to annul it. The man can still disallow the vow afterwards, but then he will have to bear the woman’s sin for breaking a vow.
"my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear,
         slow to speak..." (James 1:19).

The Fall Of Humanity...

Who's fault was it; Adam, or Eve??

It is commonly held misconception that eve killed all of humanity because she was seduced by the serpent (Satan the devil) and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (not an apple). I can certainly understand how those whom are not well versed in scripture can make this mistake; at first glance it appears to be eve's fault, because she first ate of the fruit.

However when we consider the fact that it was Adam who was 1st created, it was Adam that God told not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and the fact that Adam was instructed not to do this before Eve was even created. When we re-read the text it was after Adam ate that ''BOTH of their eyes were opened & they knew that they were naked.'' Adam being the husband could have reversed the curse although his wife had already listened to Satan (Numbers 30:1-16).

LET IT BE KNOWN: Serpents don't talk. Satan IS the serpent. The tree of the knowledge of good & evil is not a real tree (Satan the devil)

just as the tree of life isn't a real tree (Jesus).

Therefore Adam & Eve did not eat real fruit... They ate the fruit of lies (Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way. [Hosea 10:13]).

Some say but how??

Serpents don’t talk! Adam and Eve did not magically know they were naked. When was the last time you took a bite of Any Fruit and gained Knowledge, Wisdom and/or Understanding??? When the Lord asked where they were Adam said he hid himself because he was naked. Look at What God’s response was: "And he said, Who TOLD THEE that thou wast naked?" (Genesis 3:8-11)

They ate the fruit of lies, because they were listening to the father of lies (John 8:44). This lie was actually the 1st lie ever told in the bible. You shall not surely die!

FOOD 4 THOUGHT (you do the dishes): The 1st lie ever told to man was you shall not surely die. Recently my grandmother passed away and that same lie was spoken from the pulpit. That she was not dead; her body was just a shell. In my lifetime I have been to several funeral services in churches of various denominations were the preacher tried to convince the crowd that the person was ‘not really’ dead;

This is an almost a direct quote from Satan the Devil. Why?

God said, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in THE DAY THAT THOU EAT THEREOF THOU SHALL SURELY DIE (Genesis 2:15-17). Since a day with the Lord is 1,000 years and Adam only lived to be 930 yrs old, God is not a liar!

This is the very purpose of this blog. Men (and women) from the pulpit say one thing, and it is a direct contradiction to the Bible.

Hopefully by now all of my followers know that it is better to study the Bible rather than the sermon.

THE CONCLUSION OF THE MATTER:

It was Adam that brought death to humanity, not Eve. “For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:20-23).

¿WHEN THE PRAISES GO UP; THE BLESSINGS COME DOWN ?

WHEN THE PRAISES GO UP; THE BLESSINGS COME DOWN

This is one of the many cliche's that sounds poetic when it is recited during church services or on church television programs.  However, when one considers where in the scripture this statement comes from it begins to sound a little less Shakespearean.

How do we get blessings from the God of the Bible?
In a word: Obedience!

God's blessing are "upon the head of the just" (Proverbs 10:6-7)

To the faithfully Obedient God is willing, to open the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that you will not have room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10).

Even Paul equates blessings with Obedience.
"Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen" (Romans 16:25-27).

Those having faith are moved to obedience because they are confident of the blessings that obedience brings. They know that God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:1-6).

Sometimes God's blessings come after making thru hard times and remaining obedient. Joseph was hated by his brothers and sold into slavery by them. Eventually he was sold to Potiphar, the chief of Pharaoh's bodyguard (Genesis 37:36). Because of his Obedience everything Joseph did, met with success (Genesis 39:1-6). Because of Potiphar's wife Joseph was thrown into prison. In time Pharaoh had a dream and when none of the Kings advisors could interpret the dream Joseph was sent for Joseph explained both dreams one of plenty and one of famine. Joseph even suggested how to survive the famine (Genesis 41:1-36).
Pharaoh realized that God's blessings were upon Joseph, Pharaoh promoted him from prisoner to Governor of all the kingdom; second only to Pharaoh himself (Genesis 41:37-44).

Job also received God's blessings through hard times. Job was a blameless and upright man (Job 1:1-11). After Satan destroyed ALL of Job's material possessions, livestock, servants, and finally Children (Job 1:13-19), Job never turned away from God, even when he was pressured to do so by his wife and friends. He continued speaking the truth about God (Job 42:8). He accepted correction for being anxious to declare himself righteous and forgetting to vindicate God (Job 32:2). He also acknowledged his sins before God (Job 42:1-6). At the end Job was restored to his former status. His life was blessed more towards the end then it was in the beginning. His associates and relatives brought him gifts (Job 42:7-15). Finally when Job's obedience went up the blessings came down insomuch that Job lived to see his grandchildren to 4 Generations (Job 42:16).
Through Ezekiel, God testifies to Job's righteousness (Ezekiel 14:13-14,19-20).
The Apostle James also testifies (James 5:10-11).

FOOD 4 THOUGHT (you do the dishes): The blessings of God makes one rich, and He adds no sorrows with it.
(Proverbs 10:22)

The Conclusion of the Matter::  When obedience goes up; blessings come down. And that's the only way!

May the Lord add a blessing to the consideration of His Word... In Jesus name

CURSE WORDS

CURSE WORDS

This is a topic I have longed to blog about. Hopefully you aren’t too bloated from all your eating, so that you can digest this food 4 thought; and this wine 4 your mind!

What are curse words? What makes a word profane?

According to http://dictionary.infoplease.com/; a curse is defined as the expression of a wish that misfortune, evil, doom, etc., befall a person, group, etc.

2. A formula or charm intended to cause such misfortune to another.

3. The act of reciting such a formula.

4. A profane oath; curse word.

5. An evil that has been invoked upon one.

6. The cause of evil, misfortune, or trouble.

Secular definition’s are cool however we should always look to the scripture for Biblical definitions, so that while we must live in this world we can still be aware of how our God sees things. Remember:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Therefore let us turn to the 28th chapter of Deuteronomy. If you choose you can read the chapter on-line @ http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=deut%2028&version=KJV

In this 28th chapter God lays out for the children of Israel the rewards for obedience (And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God…) and the consequences of disobedience (if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee v15).

The first 14 verses of the chapter explain the many blessings that will come to the nation for holding fast that which God instructs them. However, verses 15-68 lay out the many ‘curses’ that will come upon them, and overtake them should they not obey. For what it’s worth let it be known that All Israel has transgressed the commands of God given to Moses. (Daniel 9:11-15)

For the purposes of this post, if one was to read all of the different curses pronounced upon the children of Israel, you would notice that nowhere amongst the scripture would you see what we would in 2009 call ‘cuss words’. No F-bombs, no N-words, no B-words, no ‘go to hell,’ or anything of the sort.

I have read on the internet that some say that Jesus taught that when a man uses profanity it is a sign of evil that was in that man’s heart. Unfortunately there was no reference to scripture after this statement. Therefore I must disagree and reprove the statement.

As WE ALL know and have experienced, (especially around thanksgiving) when a person gets a certain feeling in their stomach it is time to head to the bathroom.   From time to time I have even taken opportunity to tell someone where I was going. “Come now, and let us reason together,” (Isaiah 1:18) if you were to ask me what am I about to do, and I chose to answer your question what would be the difference if I chose to say I’m going to do number 2;

or I’m going to boo-boo; or I’m going to take a s#!t? In the context of the situation, they all mean EXACTLY the same thing.

Any of the words would only be considered offensive if a person gave the word the power to offend. What’s offensive about going to the bathroom? As I stated every man, woman, child, AND BEAST alive have done it since they were newborns, and will continue to do it until the day they expire.

There is also what is called ‘shoot cussing’; saying ‘Gosh’ instead of ‘god’ and so forth. People give words power. If you stop saying 'Jeez,' and say ‘Son of a Brick,’ when angry, or if you say ‘Vegetables!’ when you stub your toe, the word holds the same meaning, Period.

The word ‘swear’ has two different meanings. Swearing an oath (making a solemn promise to the Lord or another person), and foul language. Beginning in the 16th century people developed a habit of speaking scared names when no oath was being made and were therefore guilty of taking God’s name in vain. Such actions were thereby considered profane and the words used in such an act were called profanity.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT (you do the dishes): any word in the English language can be a curse word, if the context that you use the word is intended to cause such misfortune to another.

The modern concept of profanity has evolved differently in different cultures and languages. In English for example profanities tend to refer to sexuality or scatology. In Canadian-French vulgarities are a corruption of religious terminology. Japanese on the other hand has obscenities derived from sexuality and scatology but none from religious language. This is why terms that function as a curse words in one language lack profane qualities when translated into another language.

LET IT BE KNOWN: Vulgarities change over time. For example the word ‘piss’ is considered vulgar and impolite in contemporary society. However, during the translation of the King James Bible it appears several times in, 1Kings 14:10; 2kings 18:27; Isaiah 36:12 and 1Samuel 25:22.

In 1939 Gone with the Wind was the first major American film to use profanity. The word ‘Damn’ which is currently only a minor vulgarity.

PAGANISM ALL AROUND US

MAZDA

encyclopedia of the orient

There is a fine line between keeping the Commandments and the Testimony of the True and Living God in the midst of a pagan society, and Fanaticism. The next installment in the Paganism all around us series is Mazda. Known today as the Mazda Motor Corporation,

the Japanese company founder was interested in spirituality, and chose to rename the firm in honor of both his family and Zoroastrianism.

Zoroastrianism was/is the religion started by the Persian (Modern Iran) prophet Zoroaster. The date of the founding of the religion is unknown but it was in full swing between 1200-1500BC. The name Zoroaster is a Greek version of Zarathustra. Zarathustra is said to have communed with God, and he called this god Ahura-Mazda or Wise Lord.

‘Mazda’ means Wise or Wisdom, and Ahura is interpreted literally as ‘High Being’. The two names are used separately and sometimes used together. This god is sexless and abstract in nature and is simultaneously very personal and has both male and female characteristics.

Mazda is a god realized through a good mind. Mazda did not appear to Zarathustra in bodily form, or as an angel; Zarathustra saw Mazda in his ‘Minds Eye.’ Ahura Mazda has become god because of the choices that he has made. Through these choices he has achieved completeness and immortality; and a state of radiant happiness through enlighten. Ahura Mazda is not a god to be feared. He neither judges nor punishes.

Zarathustra teaches that Ahura Mazda is aware of all things as they happen, but does not know all things because he does not know how we are going to choose. He also does not know whether some chance event (like illness or accident) is going to happen. He has however determined the final refreshing for all of creation. But although he doesn’t judge this is refreshing is determined thru Mazda’s Super Wisdom, which designed a perfect plan to bring about the completeness of His creation.

LET IT BE KNOWN: The Bible says: "And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth" (Exodus 23:13). However, in accommodating this command we would render ourselves, as believer’s, unable to communicate with the rest of the world. We would have to leave the earth. (1Corinthians 5:9) For as the title suggests: Paganism IS All around Us!

Should we as Christian’s not purchase a car because it was named after a pagan god? The founder of the Japanese Manufacturing company, Jujiro Matsuda named his company in honor of the god he respected. Much in the same way we would include the God we serve, were we in a position to implement his name or attributes in an entrepreneurial endeavor. The question becomes more complicated when we consider that in the 1970’s Ford Motor Company took a stake in the failing Mazda corporation; from 7% in 1979 to 33.9% in 1997. Although Ford’s stake was reduced to 13.4% in 2008 we can see how a boycott of Mazda would be hypocritical without action against Ford.

We cannot leave the world, but we are commanded to be watchmen, therefore let us watch and understand.

For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts (Malachi 2:7).

May the Lord add a blessing to the understanding of His Word.
