God's Law was around Before Moses, AND BEFORE Adam!

"Legalist,"
is the title that Christendom gives you when you honor the laws written in the Old Testament.  Oftentimes these laws are referred to as, 'The Laws of Moses.' The Bible even calls them that from time to time: 2 Chronicles 30:16 / Ezra 7:6 /Daniel 9:13 / Malachi 4/4 etc.
It is referenced in  this way, because the law was dictated to Moses, and the word which Moses heard was recorded in 5 books called the books of Moses. Also, Moses was the intercessor, the nation of Israel was, 'baptized,' unto Moses 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

However, contrary to popular belief, the law was in existence BEFORE Moses, before Israel became a nation, and even BEFORE Abraham!

Let's go all the way back to the beginning: "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;Genesis 4:1-11

The confrontation of Cain and Abel shows us examples of how the laws of God (10 Commandments) were in effect during the life span of Adam and Eve. Cain killed his brother Abel. When God asked Cain about the incident, Cain, first decided to lie. This lie, "I know not,"
proves to us all, thousands of years later, that Cain fully understood the law/commandment that says, "Thou shalt not Kill."

If Cain was ignorant of the law, what reason would he have to lie about his actions? If no one ever told him that bringing about someone else's death was not Okay, he would have boldly said that he killed his brother! Instead he lied, then covered his lie with an apathetic statement: "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Cain's only reason to lie was the same reason Adam hid after eating of the tree of the knowledge of Good and evil (Genesis 3:7-11).
Because he knew better, but didn't Do better!

May the Lord add a blessing to the reading of His word.
