The rapture is thought to be the plan of God for the people of God during the Great Tribulation. People would have you to believe that The Most High God needs to steal people off the earth in order to protect them during this time of trouble. This however, is not biblical. The rapture is supposed to be to prevent the ‘saints’ from having to live thru the Great Tribulation. This also, is not biblical.
Probably the most common rapture scripture that is used is as follows:
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall DESCEND from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to MEET the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17).
Now let us reason together: v.16 the Lord will DESCEND FROM HEAVEN. As we learned in part 1 by the time the Lord (Son of Man) comes in the clouds of heaven (descends) the Great Tribulation has already run its course. In v. 17 we whom are alive will meet the dead in Christ in the clouds. Sisters and Brothers the clouds are still within the Earth's atmosphere.
They are so close that you can fly in an airplane above the clouds! So at this point we haven’t made it to heaven where Jesus sits on the right hand of the Father yet. The question that the Thessalonians should have asked Paul is, ‘after we meet the Lord in the clouds, where do we go from there?’ To be honest; they probably did not ask the question because the early Christians had more of a knowledge and understanding of the scriptures (Genesis – Malachi) then modern day Christians. They knew and understood that the prophet Zechariah had already wrote what would happen next.
"Behold, the day of the LORD cometh… And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley… and the LORD my God shall come, AND ALL THE SAINTS WITH THEE” (Zechariah 14:1-5).
In case you haven’t noticed by now, The Lord (Jesus) is planning an invasion of the Earth. This is why before he actually touches the earths’ surface he will gather all his troops (saints), then he will proceed to the Mount of Olives (just east of Jerusalem).
FOOD 4 THOUGHT (you do the dishes): The first place that Jesus feet will touch when he returns is the Mount of Olives Zechariah 14:1-5. The Last place that Jesus feet touched when he ascended into heaven in the sight of the Disciples was... you guessed it The Mount of Olives Acts 1:9-12.
LET IT BE KNOWN: Jesus is interested in the Earth because He swore to David. "The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it… For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it” (Psalm 132:11-18).
May the Lord add a Blessing to the reading of His word.
